MATCHING GRANT AWAITED

for Patna City Church

COULD YOU HELP?

"There is much more land to be conquered" (Joshua 13:1)

India is a land of many religions, with Hinduism being the major one that worships 33 million gods and goddesses. Additionally, India is known for its caste system where one's caste is determined at birth and cannot be changed.

  • Christianity started in the southern part of India, and most of the first responders to the Gospel were from high castes.

  • But In North India, the majority of the responders are from the low castes, while the upper castes have very fewer responders.

What does the caste system mean?

The caste system is often compared to the body parts, where the Brahmins, who are the priestly caste, are considered the head and the highest caste in the system. The Kshatriyas, who are the warrior caste, are compared to the arms and their role is to protect the Brahmins and fight for the people. The Vaishyas, or the middle caste, are compared to the thigh. The Shudras, or the lower caste, are compared to the feet and are often referred to as untouchables. The Hindu caste system consists of around 3000 sub-castes that again slipt into 2500 sub-castes, each with their own beliefs, practices, and living standards.

Christian influence among them?

In North India, around 85% of the responders to Christianity are from the lower castes due to their high level of suppression and poverty, while 15% are from the middle castes.

  • However, there are almost no responders from the upper castes!

Percentage of high caste dominance in government and private sector and other key positions:

Only 20% of the total Indian population belongs to the higher castes. However, an astonishing 88% of this group holds positions in the government, public and business sectors. The Brahmins, who belong to the higher priestly caste and make up no more than just 2 or 3% of the population, occupy 49% of these positions!

  • These are the influential, educated and wealthy people of the community but least reached by the Gospel!

WHAT IS OUR NEW VISION?

Patna is the capital city of Bihar, and as with most capital cities, the majority of important positions in both the government and private sectors are occupied by people from these high castes. Shouldn't we focus on reaching out to these people? God has given a vision to develop a city church that will specifically target this most unreached people group.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

We are planning to build a sanctuary, an auditorium for children and youth, a cafeteria area, and a badminton court (as there is no indoor badminton court in the city), along with a two-level car parking area. Due to the high cost of land, we are unable to purchase a large property.  The estimated cost of the project is $350,000.

One family has sponsored $125,000 as a one-to-one matching grant, and we hope to raise another $100,000 from India.

Therefore, we kindly request you to please consider sponsoring $5,000, $10,000, or any amount to help us match this grant…

WHEN WILL THE INAUGURATION TAKE PLACE?

God willing, we aim to hold Easter celebrations in this new facility next year.

WHAT IS NEEDED URGENTLY?

We urgently need to raise $60,000 to match the amount required for purchasing the land. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every tribe and people group can witness the glory of our Lord.

THE OUTCOMES

  1. A mere 1,000 people of this targeted group alone can bring about a significant breakthrough in the North Indian states thorugh repeating the evangelization cycle.

  2. They can have a larger influence in bringing many others of the same group to Christ.

  3. The Patna church will be self-supported and can also support the planting of other nearby daughter churches.

So just ask the Lord what your part is in this big vision?

DEADLY CHRISTIAN PERSECUTION IN MANIPUR - INDIA

Religious Fanatics Rampage Through Manipur, Burning Churches and Causing Violence

  • More than 100 churches have been burned down

  • Over 200 innocent people (mostly Christians) have died

  • More than 80 Christian villages have been burned down

  • Over 1,560 Christian houses have been destroyed

  • Many have fled to different cities with only the clothes on their back

  • Please pray for the Christian community in Manipur

Deadly violence continues to ravage Manipur, India, with over 200 people, mostly Christians, brutally killed in ongoing attacks. Reports indicate that these violent acts are being perpetrated by members of the Hindu Meitei ethnic community, with the backing of the extremist group, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a branch of the ruling party. The situation remains extremely volatile, with over 100 churches destroyed or burned to the ground across several areas of the state, particularly in the Imphal Valley and Churachandpur. The number of Christian victims is still unknown but account to 90 pecentage of the victims, and many have been forced to flee their homes with only the clothes on their backs, seeking refuge in nearby cities and states. The situation is dire, with fear and uncertainty gripping the affected communities. The attacks appear to be part of a sinister campaign to forcibly convert Christians to Hinduism, and the need for immediate intervention by the authorities cannot be overstated. This is a crisis that demands our urgent attention and prayers.

Some 10,000 military troops have been stationed by the government in Manipur, while about 13,000 individuals (mostly Christians) sought refuge in nearby states like Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. Nine of the 16 districts of Manipur are under curfew, and internet services have been suspended in the state.

A public interest litigation petition was filed before the Supreme Court, alleging that the attacks on Christians across the country were supported by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its militant wing, RSS. The petition asked for a Special Investigation Team to be constituted to prosecute the accused.

Please join us in prayer for the victims of Christian persecution in Manipur and for peace and justice to prevail in the region.
